Kevin & Kim Davis - Serving in Wales
The Testimony of Kevin Davis
In 1978, while working at a company called Place Machine, a man by the name of Raleigh Farmer was witnessing to a group of us men. It got Kevin's attention, and after several weeks he visited Ryan Road Baptist where Jerry Falwell would be speaking. Dr. Falwell spoke on Hebrews 12 that Wednesday evening and when the invitation was given, Kevin went forward and received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. After some discipleship, he was baptized in November of 1978.
In January of 1979, believing God had called him to preach His Word, Kevin enrolled at Baptist Bible College. While at college, he met his wife and helpmeet, Kim. They were married in 1981 and currently have 5 children. During his college years he was involved in Bible Clubs, visitation, AWANA, preaching at the Rescue Mission, and witnessing on the Square.
Kevin graduated from BBC in the spring of 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the Missions Program. Upon graduation, the Davis's went to Tatum Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona. There they served as Youth Directors in a part-time position for a little over a year.
In the fall of 1984, they began attending Glendale Baptist Church (nka Maranantha Baptist Church). Within a couple of months, Kevin was asked if he would consider coming on staff as an Associate Pastor. Believing it was God’s will, he accepted the position. While on staff, he served as the College and Career Pastor, taught in the Christian School, was the AWANA Game Director, and conducted various Bible studies in the city. He was licensed at this time and had the opportunity to fill the Pastor’s pulpit occasionally, do baptisms, and performed several weddings. He also had the privilege of winning several young men to the Lord and discipling them. It was a great ministry opportunity until 1988, when due to circumstances beyond their control, he could no longer be employed there full-time. Since that time, Kevin has been employed in the trucking industry, while continuing to serve at the churches they have attended.
From 1989 to 1993, while members at Alice Avenue Baptist Church (nka North Park Village Baptist), the Davis's started a College and Career Class. Kevin also went through the Evangelism Explosion program and taught Soul-Winning classes. They returned to Springfield in 1993 and joined the High Street Baptist Church where we have been serving in Children’s Ministries ever since.
It has been the Missions Conferences at High Street that have opened the Davis's eyes and heart to the call of God. For about the last 4 to 5 years, God has been dealing with them about the field of Wales. This past October when Missionary Eddie Lyons finished speaking at High Street Baptist, the Holy Spirit was greatly dealing with Kevin. His wife, Kim looked over at him and saw the tears in his eyes. She said, “We’re going, aren’t we?” When he answered “Yes, we are,” there was great peace. God has been confirming their decision through many wonderful circumstances and answers to prayer, and they pray that God will continue to confirm this call on their lives. The Davis's are willing to go to the field of Wales as long as God continues to open the doors.
The Testimony of Kim Davis
Kim received Christ as my personal Savior when shewas almost 11 years old (June 1972) at a tent revival held by Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, Ohio. After her salvation, she continued to regularly attend Sunday school and church at Grace Baptist and grew in faith.
In the fall of 1980, she enrolled in Baptist Bible College after being challenged by her Youth Minister and being convicted by the Holy Spirit to give at least one year of her life to the Lord in Bible College. It was at this time she met her husband, Kevin, and decided to pursue a degree in Christian Education. They were married in August of 1981.
During her second year at BBC, in September of 1981, at a revival held by Baptist Temple with Jerry Johnston, Kim made assurance of her salvation and was baptized since she could never remember ever taking this first step of obedience as a child.
Kim graduated from BBC in the spring of 1983 with a Certificate in Christian Education. Upon graduation, she and her husband went to serve at a small church in Phoenix, Arizona as part-time Youth Ministers. The name of the church was Tatum Baptist Church and the pastor was Calvin Blanton, who has since gone home to be with the Lord. They served in this position for a little over a year.
In the fall of 1984, they began attending Glendale Baptist Church (nka Maranantha Baptist Church) in Glendale, Arizona. Within a couple of months, the church asked Kevin to come on staff as an Associate Pastor. His responsibilities included teaching and coaching in the Christian School, as well as, teaching in the College and Career Class. Kim served in this class by taking roll, visitation, organizing activities, and counseling with the young ladies.
In 1985, Kim began working in the church office, but later ended up working in the Christian School office. She worked in the school office until the birth of their first child in November of 1986. She continued to help with the College and Career Ministry alongside Kevin until 1988, when due to some very distressing circumstances, all staff had to be let go. Since that time, Kevin has been in truck driving, but they’ve still ministered in the churches they’ve attended.
While attending Alice Avenue Baptist (nka North Park Village Baptist) in Phoenix, Arizona from 1989 to 1993, they started a College and Career/Singles Class. Kim also worked in the AWANA ministry there as Club Secretary.
In 1993, they moved back to Springfield and joined High Street Baptist Church and have been there ever since. They taught in the 2-Year Olds, 3rd Grade Junior Church, and the last five years served as the 5th Grade Superintendents. Kim was also involved in Ladies’ Bible Study and had the privilege of leading discussion groups.
In regards to Kim's call and desire to be a missionary, she prayed that if it was the Lord’s will for her to marry a man in the ministry that she’d be willing to serve in any capacity or go anywhere God called him. She's always served in any area alongside Kevin that he’s felt led to serve in and now has a peace, as well as, a great desire to serve with him in the field of Wales.
