Sam & Blessy Thomas - India

I was born and brought up in a missionary family. When I was 8 year old in a Vacation Bible School in one of our churches, I heard much Jesus loves me and I should have a personal relationship with in order to go to heaven, that day I accepted Jesus as my personal Saviour.

After my salvation, along with two of my friends from church I went around our neighborhood testifying about Jesus Christ. I knew it was the responsibility of every Christian to tell others about Christ (1 Peter 2:9). My desire was to be a doctor, one day I was talking to my father and he made this statement “son, doctors can only heal the physical body, but those who are in god’s ministry can give eternal life through Jesus Christ.” These words touched my heart. As I was reading the Bible, God spoke to me through scriptures – Proverbs 29:18; Isaiah 6:8; Romans 10:14. and I dedicated my life to be in full time ministry.

80 % of the people in India are Hindus worshipping three hundred and thirty three million gods and goddesses. 13 % are Muslims, less than 3 % are Christian religion; out of the 3 % only .5% are born again Christian. India is closed for foreign missionaries. As citizens of India, we have the freedom to preach the gospel. As I was praying for God’s will in my life, Romans 1:14 spoke to my heart and I realized that I am a debtor to my own people and recognized God’s calling to India. I came to Baptist Bible College, Sprinfield, MO in 1987 and graduated in 1991 with degrees Bachelor of Arts & Graduate of Missions.

Retuning to India I did my internship with my father for three years. After the demise of my father in 1994 I continued the ministry along with my brother Paul (also graduate of BBC, Springfield, Mo).

History Independent Baptist Ministries of India:
Independent Baptist Ministries of India was founded by the late Dr. K. C. Thomas in 1968. Dr. Thomas was born and raised in a Christian home and faithfully attended church. He received Jesus Christ as his personal saviour at the age of 18. He married his lovely wife, Thankamma, in May 1st, 1958. Together and through the Lord's mercy and grace they raised four children, two sons and two daughters. After his salvation, Dr. Thomas changed dramatically. God began to work in his life and called him into the full-time ministry. He went from the athletic fields to the mission field; while his dedication to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ brought much opposition, but his heartfelt concern was for the perishing souls of India. With strong faith and commitment, Dr. Thomas entered the ministry with his wife and his children. Having graduated from a Bible institute in India, he traveled to the United States for further theological training. He studied at Garland Bible College, Texas and then at Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri. Returned to India in 1968, Dr. Thomas founded the Independent Baptist Ministries of India with three families and a rented house. From these humble beginnings and through unwavering faith in God, The Independent Baptist Ministries of India has flourished with scores of independent, fundamental, Bible-believing, Baptist churches, Bible Colleges and Institutions, and various other ministries with the soul purpose of " Reaching the Unreached with the Gospel of Christ. " Having completed what was entrusted unto him by the Lord, Dr. K.C. Thomas was promoted to Heaven on October 6th, 1994.

Ministry since 1994:
We established more than 30 Churches ( Totaling – 110 Churches since 1968) and 25 mission stations ( Started work in one more State in India – Totaling 4 States)
1 Bible Institute (Total of 4 – One College and 3 Institute)
Correspondence School – More than 1,000 in enrollment.
Tracts ministry with appr. 8-9 million distributed every year.
3 Mobile crusade teams (started from the time of my father).

Family
Wife – Blessy
Blessy was born and brought up in a Christian family. She was saved at the age of 12 in a Vacation Bible School. She always wanted to do the will of God in doing his ministry. She was very active in teaching Sunday School and in ladies ministries in her Church. After completing high school, she earned her Bachelors in Zoology then training in secretarial course. In 1997 May 15th God brought us together. Since that time she has been actively involved in the ministry as well as being a good home maker.
